The former Beatles drummer was awarded star number 2,401 on the famed
walkway directly in front of the iconic U.S. home to the Beatles, the
Capitol Records tower in Los Angeles, CA. Monday February 8, 2010.
Those by Starr's side for the unveiling included his wife of 30 years,
actress Barbara Bach , musicians Joe Walsh and Ben Harper, producer Don
Was, director David Lynch and actor Noah Wyle among others.
Ringo Starr, receiving his award at night and speaking about the 50th
anniversary of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said "This is the start of
the next 50 years of stars. I'm proud to be the first one. It's cool to
get one at night. I don't know about you, but where I live, the stars
come out at night." He also joked that the Beatles “helped pay for” the
historic Capitol tower even though it was completed in 1956. About his
time with the Beatles, he said that he considered his bandmates to be
“brothers … they looked out for me, and I looked out for them. We all
supported each other.” The Walk of Fame also includes
individual star's for the Beatles drummer's former bandmates John
Lennon and George Harrison but interestingly not McCartney. Starr, at
the age of 69, is the first living Beatle to receive a star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame as both John Lennon and George Harrison received
posthumous honors. The Beatles, as a group received, a star in 1998. (photo: © 2010 Joe Martinez/PictureLux)
